So I spent today recording vocals and guitar on a new song and it was pretty hysterical. Lily kept barking at the cat next door, I would then mess up and swear and have to start over. But the funniest thing was that every time I finally had a take I liked a blue jay, the same one that visits every time I sing, started singing along with me! I swear! Seriously he never comes around unless I start to sing. Then he sits ON THE DECK outside my studio and squawks continuously! It was warm today and I can’t run fans or anything in the studio because of the noise obviously so I’m standing there with the headphones plastered to my head, sweating my brains out and starting over every 3 seconds because of the barking and the squawking. Finally I just started laughing to myself, like a crazy person! I took the headphones off and went outside to commune with nature, and the blue jay. He stared at me, silently, of course. I could just hear him saying so when do we start again?
I did end up getting done what I wanted to…I was doing some harmonies and doubling tracks and trying to find a guitar part…but I abandoned that for today.
The harmonies and doubling are good and they work. Without the bird. So I thought I’d share a snip of what my day sounded like. I edited all the special moments together just for you! I hope it makes you laugh. And probably don’t play it in front of your kids because yes I swear.
It was hot and I was frustrated!! My Boston upbringing comes out in those situations! Yup I’m a yoga and meditation girl, but I have my ‘For Fuck’s Sake” moments believe me!!!
I did share the song with the wonderful violinist Molly Rogers who is going grace the tune with her gorgeous playing. I’ll share that eventually too! All in all it was a good day.
I’m going to share the bird and bark recording tomorrow and call it a day today. Have a beautiful night. Dream of peace and harmony and ways we can make that happen.

This made me laugh and nod the whole way through.
The chaos, the swearing, the bird showing up just to sing with you.
It's all part of the music. Sometimes the mess is the magic.
